Battery Maintenance for your Vehicle

In order to have a proper working vehicle, your battery needs to be in good working order as well. Having clean connections and a fully charged battery is a benefit for your vehicle. Without the battery, power cannot be supplied to the areas of your vehicle that need it in order to run properly. If the battery is dead, your vehicle will not even start. There are some signs to be on the lookout for to tell when your battery is starting to wear out. If you vehicle is getting harder and slower to start, it may be a sign that you will need a new battery soon. Testing a battery is a simple procedure that can be done during your regularly scheduled maintenance inspection.   The Benefits of the Battery   If you start to notice an issue with the battery, make sure to contact us as soon as possible. You might be able to notice when the battery is starting to wear out. If your vehicle is having issues starting it may be an indication a new battery will be needed soon. It is also important to know that the temperature will do more damage to your vehicle’s battery. The heat or cold will react with the chemicals in the battery and it may result in a battery that looses its charge or fails completely.   Keep the Battery Clean   A simple way to help maintain your battery is to make sure that the battery and all of its components are clean and clear. A battery that is starting to show signs of corrosion may need to be replaced in the near future. Dirt and debris can start to gather and form in tight spaces of the battery and may eventually start to cause issues. You should always make sure the battery is clean, especially around the terminals where the connections are. During regularly scheduled maintenance we can inspect and clean the battery for you.   The Battery should Hold a Charge   You should also make sure the battery is holding its charge properly and efficiently. If your vehicle is slow to start or does not start at all, it is a good idea to have the battery tested. You can also have a battery that is overcharged, in which case, it will not work as well or efficiently as it should be. Sometimes an overcharged battery will act like one that is losing its charge, and wear out. Also, make sure the terminals are clean as this will help with charging the battery. If you notice that the battery is loosing its charge, bring it in so we can determine what the issue with the battery might be. This can help you to have a safe and reliable vehicle when you need to drive it.
