Improve the Fuel Efficiency with these 3 Tips

Making sure that you are using the best methods for fuel efficiency will help you to use less gas and pay less at the pump. It can also help in making sure that you will be able to drive longer distances. Among the things that you will need to pay attention to is tire pressure, fuel systems, and general maintenance. While you will not be able to get the same efficiency in a combustion engine, as you will be able to in hybrid vehicles, you will be able to get better gas mileage for a better drive.   The tires are very important in making sure that the vehicle will be able to run efficiently and at be reliable. Having the right amount of air pressure in each tire will help in providing better traction and less drag. Under inflated tires will not be able to get the same amount of rotation and will require more energy to move the vehicle forward. You can find the required amount of pressure for each tire when looking on the inside panel of the driver’s side door. The correct amount can also be found in the vehicle owner’s manual.   You will also want to inspect the fuel system. You will need to use cleaners to make sure that the fuel injection system is working properly at all times. Keep in mind that these systems help in monitoring the fuel you have in the vehicle and delivering it efficiently to the engine. If you keep the system clean at all times, the fuel will be able to flow easily to the engine for efficient usage.   The general maintenance makes sure that all of the engine systems are working properly at all times. Maintaining the belts and hoses along with the right fluid levels helps to make sure that the engine is operating at optimal efficiency for better gas mileage. If you notice an issue between maintenances, make sure to bring the vehicle in. This way we can repair the car so you can get back to a pleasant driving experience.

Alternator Issues to be Aware of

When you own a vehicle, it is important to bring it in regularly for an inspection. This way we can inspect several of the parts, as well as the engine and alternator. The alternator is responsible for charging the battery when the vehicle is being driven. Having an efficient alternator can help to ensure that when the engine is turned off, the battery will be fully charged. This will then help increase the chances of the vehicle being able to start when it is turned back on. A bad alternator can lead to a variety of issues. This can range from a dead battery to poor illumination of interior lights and headlights. A poor alternator can also lead to a stranded vehicle if it fails.   Most every vehicle has a type of warning light that is located on the dashboard. It will start to illuminate if the alternator is not functioning correctly, or starts to go out. The warning light may often say “ALT” or something similar. If the alternator warning light does not turn off after a few seconds after starting the engine, it is an indication there is an issue. When starting the vehicle, the light will stay on for a couple of seconds automatically, which is normal. If the alternator warning light comes on and starts blinking, make sure to pull the vehicle over as soon as possible.   Another sign of a poor alternator may be if the battery continually dies after the vehicle has been sitting, it may be because the alternator is failing. The alternator should be charging the battery properly. If the engines turns over slowly and is difficult to start, the issue may be with the alternator. It could be an indication that the alternator is starting to fail and is not properly charging the vehicle as is should be. You may also notice dim headlights or interior lights may be an indication that the alternator is failing. There also may be the sign that the lights are not as bright as they typically are. No matter if there is an issue with the alternator, battery, or electrical system, bring the vehicle in for an inspection so the source of the problem can be corrected.

Having the Brake System Inspected

When you own a vehicle, keeping it in the best condition possible is important. You will want to make sure you bring the vehicle in regularly so we can inspect the parts and components for you. One of the parts that will need to be inspected is the brake system. If you notice that the vehicle is becoming more difficult to stop, make sure to schedule an appointment with us so that we can inspect the brakes, brake pads, and brake rotors for you.   When you apply the brakes and the pedal is pushed almost down to the floor, it might indicate worn brake pads. It could also be a problem with the hydraulic system, such as air in the line, or an air leak or brake fluid leak. Another indication that the brakes should be replaced is a squealing noise when the brakes are applied. If your car pulls or jerks to one side or another when you put on the brakes, this could be the beginning of some brake problems. Also, if you apply the brakes in a normal situation but experience vibrations with the brake pedal, this could lead to a major repair with the brake pads and rotors if not looked at by a mechanic.   The rotors should also be looked at to insure a proper and working brake system. If there are deep, circular shaped marks and grooves in the brake rotors, they may need to be replaced. The lack of maintenance can result in the brake pad being worn down, resulting in the deep grooves on the rotors. Over time the brake pads and brake rotors will start to wear down. If the brake pad is too hard or too soft, you will want to schedule an appointment as soon as you can so we can inspect them for you. Having a reliable brake system will help for an enjoyable ride.

Keep the Battery in Good Condition

When owning a vehicle, you will want to keep it in the best condition possible. This can help you to have an efficient and reliable vehicle when you drive. One part to inspect regularly is the battery. If the battery is starting to get weak and it is hard to start your vehicle, this may be an indication your battery is starting to fail. When you bring your vehicle in for regular scheduled maintenance inspections, a battery test can be done to determine what condition your battery is in.   Make sure the battery is clean. If the battery is showing signs of corrosion, a replacement may be needed in the near future. If any dirt or debris on the battery starts to form, it may cause the battery to drain. This is especially common in tight spaces of the battery. It is also important to clean the terminals of the battery where the connections are. If the vehicle is not starting, or slow to start make an appointment with us so we can inspect the battery.   Without the battery for your vehicle, you will not even be able to start your vehicle. If your battery fails when you are traveling, it can be a stressful and inconvenient issue. By keeping the battery in good condition and making sure it, as well as all of its components, is clean you can help to preserve the life of the battery as long as you can.
